YOUNG CHEF COMPETITION FINAL

02 August 2022  |  fnscreative

Lottie and Florrie, who triumphed in earlier heats, took place in the Rotary Young Chef Competition final along with the top-placed contestant from Bedale High School.

The students were tasked with preparing a healthy two-course meal against the clock, watched by ex-RAF Warrant Officer Nick Wright, formerly of the RAF Leeming catering team, and three judges from organisers Northallerton Mowbray Rotary Club.

The standard of catering was extremely high and the judges had a very difficult job separating the students. By a narrow margin, they awarded top prize to Lottie for her delicious combination of spinach and ricotta ravioli followed by millionaire shortbread domes.  Florrie and the student from Bedale were very close runners-up.

“This is fabulous cooking by any standards,” said Mr Wright. “All of these dishes would grace menus at any restaurant and there was literally only a point or two between all three students.

“We were hugely impressed with the talents of all three and it was clear they had put a lot of thought and time into their menus and preparation.”

Congratulations to Lottie and well done to all three students – what a fantastic achievement!
