University Podcast Scheme Gives Y10s a Glimpse of Life in the Media

Year 10 students recently had the opportunity to visit York St John University to record their own podcasts and a TV news programme. The trip was designed to give the students a taste of university life and to help them develop their communication skills. The visit was a great opportunity for the students to get a taste of higher education and to learn from experienced professionals in the field of media and communication.

During the visit, the students had the chance to learn about the techniques that make for good storytelling, interviewing, and podcasting. They were able to put this knowledge into practice by recording their own podcasts and a TV news programme. The process of recording involved planning, scripting, and editing; giving the students a taste of what it takes to produce high-quality media content. The students were also able to use professional recording equipment which added to the authenticity of the experience. The visit also provided the students with an insight into university life and what it takes to succeed at a higher level of education.

Eliza Davidson, in year 10, took part in the project and said that her favourite element was ‘Presenting a weather forecast’ for a TV news broadcast. Fellow student, Pranav Abilash, described the whole day as ‘splendid!’ and said he particularly enjoyed ‘working as a team and sharing the experience with others’.

Overall, the trip was a great success and will undoubtedly be remembered by the students for years to come.
