The sun WILL come out tomorrow!! (Just not quite yet…)

06 April 2020  |  G Denison

Since September, the 30 strong cast of students from Year 7 to Year 13 have worked with dedication and energy to rehearse the songs, dances and scenes ready for performance. With rehearsals taking place every week since the start of the year and twice a week since half term, including rehearsals in half term, the cast have invested so much time and effort into preparing a show which was ready to go this week.

Last Sunday saw the full cast come in to school from 9-4 to work with the full band and rehearse with microphones and lights in preparation for the planned first night. With costumes, make-up and full technical equipment, the show was really shaping up to be something special. During this time I was able to take photos of the performance, which will give you an idea of just what we had in store for you.

With this in mind, a massive thanks need to go to Mr Stacey-Chapman, Mr Johnson, Mr Ient and Mr Maughan for their skills and contribution to the technical rehearsal and Mrs Kreczak, Ms Gibson-Jones and Mrs Lake for their hard work on the set design and decoration.

When the sad news was broken to the cast on Monday morning, there was understandable disappointment and frustration, none moreso than from myself, but the decision, although hard, has been the correct one to ensure the safety of our cast and audience and to not put anyone in a difficult position regarding the current health care situation.

were unable to present the show to an audience as we had planned this week, we were still able to run our dress rehearsal on Monday afternoon, giving our cast an opportunity to run the show in its entirety before it was put on hiatus. This has provided us with an opportunity to celebrate what we have, and allows us to take the extra time to develop the production and improve on what was already going to be a great show.

We do still intend to perform the production once normality returns, with an aim to run at the end of June/early July. When we do return, I can guarantee that this will be an event that you will not want to miss out on. If you have already purchased tickets, these will be honoured for the new dates. If you hadn’t, why not? But don’t worry, you will be able to purchase them when we return.

I want to finish by saying a massive thanks to the cast, who have been fantastic throughout this process; I never cease to be impressed by the talent and commitment of our students.

The sun WILL come out tomorrow!! (Just not quite yet…)
