Students are rewarded with prestigious award

Students Sophie Bramham and Joe Lawn have been awarded the prestigious Cuthbert Cross.

Two students have been recognised by fellow students and staff for their contribution to the school community. They were chosen from a short list of 14 students.

First awarded in 1910, the solid silver cross is given annually to a boy and girl who ‘by loyal, chivalrous and honourable conduct have done the most to enhance the character and reputation of the school’.

Sophie, 18 is the current assistant head girl. She is passionate about fundraising and was at the forefront of a fundraising campaign in school to raise money for Freddie’s Fight, a local charity. She has also spent time helping out in lessons, supporting younger students. She hopes to read Psychology at Newcastle University from September.

Sophie said ‘I feel honoured by fellow staff and students to have been voted for the award and have enjoyed being a member of the school community and having the opportunity to fund raise within the school.’

Joe, 18 has played a pivotal role in the mid-day supervisory team at school, building up a supportive relationship with younger students. He is passionate about sport and is a member of the school football team as well as being a part of the famous Friday night football squad. He has also supported younger students in lessons. Joe also hopes to read Psychology, at Sheffield Hallam University.

Joe said ‘I have thoroughly enjoyed being a part of Northallerton School and Sixth Form College and have thrown myself into becoming a part of the school community. I enjoy helping out at events and with other students so to be chosen for this award was a massive honour.’

Head of sixth form Kathryn Redpath said: “Sophie and Joe are both worthy recipients as they have worked hard in all aspects of community life and have been a pleasure to work with. They deserve to be recognised and both have bright futures ahead of them.”
