Readers Reviews Rewarded

The English department recently dedicated a whole week of learning to reading. As part of this, we set a competition to review any book and opened it up to all students. As usual, the quality of responses was superb and Miss O’Donnell had a difficult time picking the winners.
Our Year 7 winner is Ashton who wrote about not just one but a whole series of books – ‘The Inheritance Cycle’ by Christopher Paolini. This detailed review concluded with the comment that it is a ‘definite must read’ and gave it the full 5/5 stars.
Talitha is our Year 8 winner for a review of Michael Morpurgo’s ‘The Amazing Story of Adolphus Tips’. This is clearly another highly recommended book with Talitha describing it as her ‘favourite’ of all the Morpurgo books read so far.
For Year 9, Matilda has been chosen as our winner for her review of the ever-popular ‘The Northern Lights’ by Philip Pullman. She recommends it to anyone who wants a ‘thrilling good book to read’.
In Year 10, the winner submitted what amounted to more of a critical essay than a review. Abbi produced a highly intelligent and imaginative analysis of Jane Austen’s classic, ‘Emma’, where she focused on the key themes of the novel. It’s certainly something that many A Level students would be proud to have written.
Well done to all our winners – keep reading!
