A Taste of Journalism

Students from Year 10 and Year 12 are taking part in a project organised by UniConnect in conjunction with the journalism department from York St. John University. Lecturers and undergraduates have visited school the past two Fridays to talk to students about university life, higher education and studying journalism. They have also had the opportunity to make some short films about their experiences by filming around the site and editing the footage. Year 10 student, Jennifer Harvey, said that, ‘it’s been fun using the iPads to make films and allow me to explore my creative side’. Sam Elsdon, another Year 10 student, added, ‘I particularly enjoyed using the software to edit the footage into a short film’. This project will culminate in a visit to York at the end of the month where our students will have the opportunity to use the university’s facilities to create a television news bulletin.
