Heading into a new era and celebrating some great results, Northallerton School & Sixth Form College held its Year 13 Results Day in its brand new, state-of-the-art Sixth Form Centre. The school is thrilled to report some outstanding achievements by its students in their A-levels and other qualifications this summer.

These are some of the many destinations of this year’s students:

Morgan Bell is going to the University of Oxford to study Biology. Morgan said, “I’m so happy, this is actually happening.”

Laura Reynolds said, “I am thrilled with my results, I am going to the University of Liverpool to do History and Politics. I have really enjoyed my time here.”

Emma Lawn said, “I’m amazed, I’m so pleased!” She is going to the University of Manchester to study Mental Health Nursing.

Emily Jade Steckles is going to Northumbria University to study Midwifery Studies, she said, “I am so happy and relieved. I feel like I’ve been really well-supported, I have loved my time here.”

Jack Hind is going to Lancaster University to study Theoretical Physics, he said, “I am very happy with my results.”

Sam McVeigh is going to Durham University to study Physics, “I want to say a massive thank you to the school and all my teachers for the past seven years. The quality of teaching has been amazing and I couldn’t have wanted for any more. Thank you!”

Sam’s dad, Allan McVeigh, said, “Huge thanks to the school for its exceptional commitment to Sam’s education throughout his time at Northallerton School & Sixth Form College. The quality of teaching has been absolutely first class and to have maintained this standard during the pandemic as well, only highlights further the calibre of the teaching staff. With Sam’s GCSE results and now his A levels, we just couldn’t have hoped for a better outcome.”

This year, following the cancellation of exams, grades were awarded through a process of teacher assessed grades, against a national standard that was approved and awarded by the exam boards. The government is not publishing performance data for any schools or colleges this year due to the varying impact of the pandemic.

Kathryn Redpath, Head of Sixth Form, said: “We’re proud of all our students. Students and staff have worked really hard to secure a wide range of destinations. Once again, students are moving onto so many exciting next steps and we are thrilled for them. While celebrating the achievements of our Year 13 students, we are also looking forward to welcoming in a new era of teaching our post-16 students on our new site.

Vicki Rahn, Headteacher said: “We are extremely proud of all the work and achievements of our students, especially after such a difficult and disrupted year. Our teachers have worked tirelessly to ensure students are all able to progress onto further education, apprenticeships and employment. We look forward to seeing what they will achieve in the future.

It has been a real pleasure today to celebrate this year’s results with our students and we wish them all the very best with their next steps. I am very grateful to all the staff at Northallerton School & Sixth Form College for the care and support they have provided to our Year 13 students throughout this challenging year.”

Richard Crane, CEO of the Aretė Learning Trust said: “Despite all of the challenges that students and staff have faced during the last academic year, we are delighted to celebrate their achievements and success in terms of what they have achieved. I’d like to thank the students and teachers for all of their hard work, and parents/carers and families for all of the support they have provided for our students throughout their time at Northallerton School & Sixth Form College. We wish all of Y13 every success for the future”.
