Mock Interviews for Year 10s a great success

Our first ever mock interview event took place recently and we were delighted to be able to offer this opportunity to our Year 10 students. With the help of the team at NYBEP who facilitated the event and a host of local employers who volunteered their own time to support us, over 140 Year 10 students had the chance to find out what it’s like to have a real interview. The students were asked a series of typical interview questions and were given feedback to help them in the future. Many of the students commented on how the experience helped them to feel more confident and to understand what they need to work on for future interviews.
We received many compliments from the volunteers who interviewed the students, all commenting on how well the students behaved, their manners and their confidence. One of the employer volunteers said “The students seemed to have a really good grasp of taking opportunities and using their skills wisely to help them move on. All were unfailingly polite and well-mannered so well done to them. As an employer I would have been happy to have any one of them as a potential employee. They were open to ideas, receptive and one or two were really showing initiative in their thinking”
Ruth Hamer, Careers Advisor says “It was wonderful to see so many students make the most of this fantastic opportunity – so many of them came in nervous not knowing what to expect and left with renewed confidence. They should all be very proud of themselves. A big thanks to the team at NYBEP and to all the employers who came along to help, without whom we could not have offered our students this opportunity. We hope to be able to offer this experience to all future Year 10 students”
