DofE Interview with Year 11 student Amy
22 September 2020 | G Denison
1. Why did you decide to do DofE?
I decided to do DofE because I think it’s a great opportunity to take and I can gain a lot of skills and experience from it. One of the main reasons I chose to do the award is because I’m considering a career in the navy and to have this on my application would be good and help me stand out.
2. What benefits are you expecting to get from DofE?
A benefit I’m expecting to get out of the DofE award is being able to have it on my job application and making me stand out amongst others, especially with wanting to go into the military. Having the award will show that I’ve got skills that others may not, it will show that I am adventurous and that I am also committed, along with other positive qualities.
3. What are you most looking forward to?
I am most looking forward to being able to do some sort of expedition with friends, as it will be a good experience and also good fun too, but with covid having an effect on this part of the award I’m not sure of if this will happen yet.
4. What are you doing for your skill, physical and volunteering?
For each section I’m doing:
Physical – swimming/fitness at Northallerton swimming club.
Skills – acting, drama & theatre skills.
Volunteering – sports leadership at Northallerton hockey club with the younger players.
5. How has this changed in the current circumstances?
With everything going on at the moment, I’ve had to adapt in certain areas, with the physical section of the award I was running throughout lockdown and did open water swimming.
6. What support are you getting from friends etc?
With this award I’m getting support from my friends that I am doing it with, as well as the coaches at swimming and hockey.
