A Year 13 NSSFC student has been awarded a most prestigious honour bestowed by the Royal Air Force. Amy P, 18 from Northallerton, has been selected from a range of candidates to be chosen as the RAF Leeming Station Commander’s Cadet.

To achieve this accolade, Amy had to write a lengthy submission letter outlining her credentials and personal qualities. The selectors were hugely impressed by the maturity, dedication and enthusiasm that she has shown during her time as an RAF cadet. Amy admitted to being ‘surprised and honoured’ when she received the acceptance letter.

As well as a commemorative coin, Amy was awarded with a drill staff which she now has to accompany her cadet uniform. She will be invited to partake in a number of activities and ceremonies in the coming months such as formal receptions, drill weekends and welcoming visitors on exchange visits. Excitingly, Amy has been given the opportunity to participate in the International Air Cadet exchange programme which could see her go as far afield as Canada, Australia or New Zealand.

Amy joined the Royal Air Force air cadets as recently as 2021 and has already risen to the position of Flight Sergeant. She hopes, as part of her role, to have ‘a good platform to influence others’. Amy is now seriously considering a career in the forces and would very much like a role as a personal trainer or RAF regiment officer. She has already made a great impression on senior figures so the future is very bright!
