ART AMBASSADORS GET TACTILE FOR DEMENTIA

07 July 2021  |  fnscreative

On Tuesday evening we were delighted to meet the staff and residents of Avalon to present them with a tactile wall hanging for their new premises. The Avalon Group is a registered day service for older adults in Northallerton with a range of needs such as dementia.

The art ambassadors took the brief and created a seaside themed wall hanging which residents with dementia could enjoy through touch and story telling. The art ambassadors worked diligently after school to create a very personal and meaningful piece of work experimenting with tie dye, applique felt, weaving and embroidery.

Miss Allsop beamed “I am so proud of the art ambassadors and their work ethic. Together they worked efficiently to produce a final wall hanging that will help residents reminisce on holidays they have enjoyed and shared with loved ones. All students contributed so much time, effort and energy. It was wonderful to meet the Avalon team and present them with the piece. We are looking forward to collaborating with them again soon, so watch this space! “

A big congratulations to the art ambassadors: Bea, Sophia, Seren, Isobel ,Rosa, Maia, Abi and Gracie.
