We know that for students to really excel, they need to have both great academic opportunities and the best possible pastoral care to help them to fully achieve their aspirations.
Northallerton School & Sixth Form College is very proud of the pastoral care provided to our students. We support our students pastorally in a number of different ways. Students have a morning tutorial period at the start of every day to ensure that they are fully equipped, happy, feel safe and are ready to learn. During the tutorial students will have opportunities to read, to discuss current affairs and to complete our Learning for Life curriculum. In addition, each year group has a weekly assembly, which is aligned to the Learning for Life curriculum.
Heads of year and tutors/base coaches know their students very well and build close supportive relationships. Your child’s tutor/base coach is the first port of call for any queries, concerns or issues. Parents are encouraged to build a relationship with their child’s tutor/base coach. Each year group has a dedicated head of year, who offers support and maintains an overview of all the students in that year group in terms of their behaviour, attendance and wellbeing.
Our Heads of Year for September 2020 are:
We also have close links with a wide network of external agencies who support students more directly with specific issues such as Early Help, Children and Young People's Services, Police, CAMHS, Young Carers and bereavement support.
