A-Level Success

15 August 2024  |  Rebecca Wilson

Congratulations to our Year 13 students from Northallerton School and Sixth Form College who received their A-Level and CTEC results today. The vast majority of those going on to university have a place at their first choice. The destinations are varied and include places at prestigious Russell Group universities.

Our students are going on to pursue a wide range of next steps, some are going to university, some to apprenticeships, some are having a year out to travel and gain work experience and some are going straight into employment.

We are very proud of the achievements of all of our students, here are some of their stories:

Careers in health care are a popular choice – Ami is going to Hull York Medical School to study medicine. Ami set her heart on becoming a doctor when she was very small, today marks the next step in her journey towards that goal. Savanna is going to the Royal Veterinary College to study BioVet Sciences. Caleb is going to do Physiotherapy at Sheffield Hallam. Connie has gained a place to become a Paramedic at the University of Central Lancashire.

The University of York St John is a favourite destination, four of our students are going – Isabelle to do History, Ellie to study Primary Education, Brandon to study Forensic Psychology and Melodie to do Adult Nursing.

The life sciences are a popular choice of subject for our students. Dylan and Chloe are going to do Zoology and Biochemistry respectively at Newcastle University, Beth is also going to do Zoology, at Aberdeen University. Our top performer this year is Holly who achieved a brilliant clean sweep of three A*s, she is going to York University to study Biology.

Media is another popular choice with Jemma going to study Journalism at Lincoln University and Rimini doing Media, Communication and Culture at Leeds Beckett.

Star of our shows, Abbie, is going to study Musical Theatre at the London Media Academy.

Many more of our students are staying in the north to pursue a wide range of courses – Ellie is going to the University of Leeds to study Philosophy, Ruth is going to the University of Durham to do Physics, Tilly is going to York to do Physics with Astrophysics, Lucie, also to York to do Marketing. Lewis is venturing further afield to Loughborough to do Aeronautical Engineering.

Of those who are going on to do apprenticeships, Aaron is another of our students who has done brilliantly, gaining a Distinction Star in Business, an A in Economics and a B in Law. He is going on to do a degree apprenticeship in Quantity Surveying at Walter Thompson, based in Northallerton. Another success story is Harrison who is already working for SCP in Leeds as an Apprentice Engineer.

Every cohort of students is amazing but this year, this group of students are particularly special, both to each other and to us, as their teachers. This is because one of their year group, the lovely Grace, passed away in autumn of Year 12. Together they have done all sorts of things, including the Great North Run, the Yorkshire Three Peaks, various bake sales and pub quizzes to raise over £13,000 in memory of Grace. Most of the money raised has gone to Teenage Cancer Trust, the charity that supported Grace and her family. Construction of a memorial garden at school is also underway.

Vicki Rahn, Head Teacher at Northallerton School and Sixth Form College, congratulated the students on their success: “We are very proud of our students, wish them all the very best with the next steps of their lives, and look forward to staying in touch with them as their successes continue. I would also like to thank all of our staff for their hard work and our parents and carers for their support.”
