Mr Thompson led three teams of Year 9 students and two teams of Year 12 students to Catterick Garrison for the Rotary Club Competition. This annual event is designed to challenge students’ design and problem-solving skills.
Hosted by 1CS REME at Megiddo Lines in Catterick Garrison, the competition brought together over 40 teams from schools across North Yorkshire. Our students were tasked with shooting a ping pong ball up 3 meters through a hoop and having it fall back down with a parachute through the same hoop.
The competition consisted of three parts:
- Design portfolio, showcasing students’ thinking and thought process
- Making the product
- Testing the product
While our Year 9 teams did not win in the intermediate group, they impressed with their dedication and teamwork. The students thoroughly enjoyed the day, as evidenced by the photos. They were a credit to themselves and the school, rising to the challenge admirably.
Our Year 12 students showcased their talents brilliantly, achieving 1st and 3rd place in the advanced group.
Both teams impressed the judges with their design portfolios, and Team 1’s physical product was particularly praised for its quality and thoughtful design. However, the overall winners of the advanced group were Team 2, with Team 1 achieving a commendable 3rd place.
Congratulations to all our Year 12 students for their outstanding performance and representation of our school!
