A robin captures the spirit of Christmas perfectly therefore it is fitting that our winning Christmas card design this year, designed and painted by Hannah Williamson in Year 12, captures this iconic bird along with winter berries. Hannah’s work displays her great skill in capturing the Robin's character and nature through intricate brush work. Initially, Hannah was going to work in pencil but then decided her design would be more realistic in colour.

On 11th December, The English Department crowned Alex B (Year 9) as the winner of the Winter Creative Writing Competition, which was advertised on Instagram @nssfc_english. Alex was awarded some stationery prizes and a £10 book voucher. Alex created an impressive description using some ambitious vocabulary and told the tale of a pickpocket in Victorian London. It was clear that Alex was inspired by A Christmas Carol that Year 9 are currently studying in class.

Miss Allsop, Head of Art had great success when she has launched our first photography competition. The idea came to her when she happened to stumble on the wonderful evening sky as she returned home. The colours were so vivid and wonderful she thought, what a great opportunity to get students outdoors and capturing such wonderful sunsets.
