Headteacher’s End of Year Message

We’ve made it to the end of the most extraordinary school term any of us have ever experienced. When we came back to school in September 2019, who could possibly have thought that the academic year would end like this. As a school and as individuals we have all faced unprecedented challenges and have had to adapt and learn to live our lives in completely different ways. We have suffered sadness, tragedy and loss but, amongst all this, we have also seen the very best in people. I really believe that we, as a school, will come through this time as a stronger, better, more cohesive community.
A Celebration of Year 13

Every year the Sixth Form hosts a celebration assembly to provide opportunity for our students to reflect and look fondly upon their last year as part of Northallerton School and Sixth Form College.Due to the current school closures, which began in March, the usual joyful celebrations have not been able to take place for this year group.

As part of an exploration of the witches in Shakespeare's 'Macbeth', students were given an optional extra task to try and create their own spell using rhyming couplets, regular rhythm and a Shakespearean language style - I am sure you will agree this is an incredibly difficult challenge!

Areté Biology Challenge

The Areté Challenges are competitions in a number of different subjects, open to students attending the schools in the Areté Learning Trust - Richmond School, Stokesley School and Northallerton School.They were inspired by the many and varied competitions that universities have for A level students and came about when staff were thinking about how to provide opportunities to challenge and inspire students during lockdown.
Performing Arts students get creative in lockdown

Finding a way to approach Drama over remote learning has given us the opportunity to explore elements of the subject in different ways. Whilst leading practical tasks has not been possible, all students have been given the opportunity to see live performance by watching recorded performances of the National Theatre's past productions, including Wonder.land in Year 7, Treasure Island in Year 8, One Man, Two Guvnors in Year 9 and Frankenstein in Year 10.
Educake Cupcakes

The Science department delivered cupcakes to our top 10 Educake users from Year 11. They answered an incredible 110,000 questions collectively.
Northallerton Sixth Form College Cuthbert Cross Awards 2020

The Cuthbert Cross is a prestigious award presented annually to one male and one female student in Year 13. All nominations come from the students. Nominated students are then invited to provide a written submission, to be read by other Year 13 students and staff. A vote is then cast to decide the winner.The Cuthbert Cross was first awarded in 1910 and represents the school’s association with Durham Cathedral. The original citation of the award is as follows:

The English department recently dedicated a whole week of learning to reading. As part of this, we set a competition to review any book and opened it up to all students. As usual, the quality of responses was superb and Miss O’Donnell had a difficult time picking the winners.
