Around 145 of our 7-9 Music students have taken up a new instrument in isolation, working towards Grade 1 standard. Students have said, ‘it’s really impressive to be able to play a song’ and ‘it’s fun, and you get something out of it at the end’.

A teacher from Shrewsbury has created a virtual orchestra full of 70 music teachers from across the country and the world.Joe Austin, who's Head of Music at The Priory School, asked his students to do something creative with music to help with their wellbeing while they weren't at school due to the lockdown.He said he created the orchestra to set an example to his students, but also for the same reason - for his own wellbeing.

Since September, the 30 strong cast of students from Year 7 to Year 13 have worked with dedication and energy to rehearse the songs, dances and scenes ready for performance. With rehearsals taking place every week since the start of the year and twice a week since half term, including rehearsals in half term, the cast have invested so much time and effort into preparing a show which was ready to go this week.

Students from Year 10 and Year 12 are taking part in a project organised by UniConnect in conjunction with the journalism department from York St. John University. Lecturers and undergraduates have visited school the past two Fridays to talk to students about university life, higher education and studying journalism. They have also had the opportunity to make some short films about their experiences by filming around the site and editing the footage...
