We have a fully equipped sports hall for use by students and community groups. It encompasses cricket nets and a climbing wall with markings for four badminton courts, one basketball court, one tennis court, one netball court and five-a-side football. There is also the added bonus of being able to divide the area into half with the use of the curtain.
Sixth Form Centre
The Sixth Form Centre provides an attractive informal work and social area exclusively used by Sixth Form students. In addition the area also provides quiet study facilities with wi-fi access and the Sixth Form staff team are on hand to help with queries and support.
The Sixth Form is well situated in the centre of the town, close to all local amenities and transport routes. Easy access is key.
Our site is attractive and extensive with over 30 hectares of outdoor facility green space for sport and recreation - used regularly for football, rugby, cricket and hockey, as well as track and field events such as on our annual Sports Day. The grassed areas are also great for picnics, frisbees or just chilling. You can also eat outside in picnic areas situated in the Upper and Lower Quads - the former providing shade under a 100 year-old willow tree!
Additionally, there are 3 tennis courts and 3 basketball/netball courts (remember, the Sports Hall, Gym and Fitness Suite also provide comprehensive indoor sporting and fitness facilities which are second to none and certainly amongst the best in the area). We take sustainability seriously and have developed our own recycling processes and garden allotment which regularly provides fresh fruit and vegetables in season.
The Music Technology Suite has 11 PCs running Cubase 5 and Sibelius 6 software. Equipment available for digital recording includes high quality audio SE and Stagg microphones and Behringer and Pre Sonus digital/audio interfaces. Many students upload work to the school record label, "Orinoco", which is found at www.numu.org.uk/orinoco

The 11 piece, Life Fitness cardiovascular and resistance machine equipment with free-weights and a concept 2 rowing machine ‘does just what it says on the tin’ and provides a fantastic get-fit facility which is the envy of many schools. All the cardiovascular pieces have a built in heart rate monitor which reads your heart rate whilst exercising. This enables the participant to record their own heart rates before, during and after the activity. This facility on the machines also encourages students to understand about working thresholds and recovery rates with an emphasis on safe working rates.
All students can benefit from this fantastic Fitness Suite as it is not only available during the school day for high energised PE lessons but students can also use the equipment Monday to Thursday after school. So students are able to exercise, socialise and listen to MTV whilst they exercise.
Whether for specific sport training and development or for general use, our Fitness Suite delivers a safe and exciting facility for students and staff.
