Teacher Training

If you are interested in joining an exciting profession then we can support and help you. We offer a range of opportunities to gain experience and training.

If you want to try out teaching or gain some experience prior to making an application to train, then the School Experience Programme may be the opportunity you are looking for. Details are found on the website, applications are made through this site and we ask that you do not contact the school directly.

If you are ready to train to become a teacher and to undergo Initial Teacher Training (ITT), then you might be interested in the following options:

The traditional PGCE route

We currently take students on a one-year PGCE course from the Universities of Durham and York and in recent years Sunderland and Leeds. Students have been training in science, English geography, maths and history. For more details about which subjects are offered by each University please visit their websites and the UCAS site through which applications have to be made.

White Rose Alliance



We are members of the White Rose Alliance which is a coming together of schools in North Yorkshire and Leeds, working in partnership with a variety of Universities in the region to provide teacher training. Details can be found on the WRA website and applications made through UCAS.

Applications are currently open for the 2016/7 course in a variety of subject areas including PE, maths, English, geography, history, biology, chemistry, MFL and art and design.
